Privacy notice

Updated 16 October 2026. This is a translation; the German version governs in case of doubt.

1. What we do not collect

This website sets no cookies. It uses no analytics or tracking, no ads, no accounts, and loads nothing from third parties: its fonts, images and scripts come from our own server. Links to other sites open only when you click them.

2. What a visit necessarily involves

Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit, Cloudflare processes what delivery needs: your IP address, date and time, the address requested, your browser type and, where sent, the referring page. Purpose: delivery, stability and protection from attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in running the site securely). Cloudflare acts as our processor (Art. 28 GDPR) and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Retention: we keep no access logs ourselves; logging is switched off for this site. Cloudflare keeps the connection data only as long as delivery and protection require, and publishes no fixed period for it (Cloudflare's privacy policy, section 11).

Likes. When you press the heart under a post, our server raises that page's counter by one. It stores the page and the number only: no IP address, no identifier, nothing about you. So that a second press does not count twice, your browser itself remembers which pages you liked (see 3).

Email. If you write to us (hello@bon-sai.garden), we process your address and message to reply. Mail to addresses at bon-sai.garden is received by Cloudflare and forwarded to our inbox. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or (b) where you ask about a contract. We delete the message once the conversation is done and no retention duty applies.

Contact form. When you send the contact form, our server sends your message, your email address and, if you gave one, your name to us once as an email, through Cloudflare (see Hosting). Nothing of it is stored on the site. To slow down abuse, the server counts only how many messages arrive per hour in total, not from whom. Legal basis and deletion as for email.

3. What stays in your browser

Your browser stores a few settings of this site locally (localStorage, and sessionStorage for one visit): light or dark theme, language, whether the side navigation is open, your likes, and small display states. They never leave your browser and are not sent to us. They are strictly necessary for the function you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Write to privacy@bon-sai.garden. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the member state where you live (Art. 77 GDPR).

If anything this website processes changes, we update this notice and the date above.
